A Landscape for Discovery
We’re shaping a vibrant new community rooted in life science innovation — a place where groundbreaking DNA research continues, and a sustainable future takes form. This landscape-led development champions climate action, biodiversity, and environmental restoration, creating a rich, resilient ecosystem.
Designed to spark collaboration and serendipitous encounters, the project brings together architects, scientists, planners, and community leaders. Together, we’ve crafted a holistic strategy that reduces carbon, enhances climate resilience, and restores nature through green-blue infrastructure and agroforestry.
Planning approval was unanimously granted in December 2023 for the Masterplan and Design Guide. Key milestones include the UK’s first Cycle Priority street network, living bridges by Wilkinson Eyre, and a carbon-neutral energy loop. Biodiversity will exceed 25% across the site, early works included 914 semi mature trees transplanted to stimulate new woodland belts.
Construction has begun on MAKE’s first residential buildings, set above a leisure centre and pool, surrounding a wooded courtyard linked to the North Bridge. To the south, Gensler’s Research and Translation building is underway — a key step in connecting science, community, and innovation across the evolving campus.
Every element is thoughtfully designed — beautiful, inclusive, and sensitive to its surroundings. From richly planted dry gardens, to floodable greens, we’ve used low carbon bespoke pavers, chalk and flint materials to terraced landscapes and accessible routes, this is a place that welcomes all, works with nature, and meets challenges with creativity.
