Power to the people!

A multi-million pound project to benefit the local community is always cause for celebration, and we are particularly proud to have worked alongside Max Architects to support Slade Gardens Community Play Association in designing a new community centre for Stockwell.

All too often communities see a design when it is a fait accompli, but at Stockwell the vision was informed at all stages by the local community, who are deeply invested in the final outcome. This is the beauty of community-led design, which ensures that when the final brick is laid, the project is valued by the people who are supposed to use it.

The new centre, just around the corner from our Lambeth studio, has the potential to bring transformative community benefits. The landscape will boast three beehives producing Slade Garden Honey, polytunnel green housing and raised allotment beds. Food grown onsite will supply a new café, where young people will be able to gain training and work experience.

The community centre has been given planning permission, with construction beginning, funding permitting, in May 2021.
